I am a contemporary historian and writer. My recent research examines how humans relate to remote environments, such as the deep sea and life beneath sea ice. My coming book delves into the history of deep-sea exploration. Learn more about the project here.
I have also worked as a journalist, covering topics such as the environmental challenges of salmon farming in Norwegian fjords, the threat of melting permafrost to the global seed vault on Spitzbergen and on the potential of jellyfish as a food source. My first book, Elisabeth Mann Borgese and the Law of the Sea, explores the history of the Law of the Sea Convention—a timely subject as deep seabed mining edges closer to reality. It examines the period when the rules and regulations for deep-sea mining were established, offering valuable insights for today’s policymakers.
